About Ruthie’s

Hi, I’m Sarah! I’ve been baking professionally in Burlington for years, and since 2022 I’ve been the baker behind the vegan custom cake program at Pingala Cafe. In that time, I’ve made nearly 500 cakes for birthdays, weddings, graduations, anniversaries, and plenty of occasions that needed no excuse other than “cake”!

In 2026, it was time to give the cake program a refresh, and Ruthie’s was born!

Who is Ruthie? Well.. she’s family! The name Ruth has been passed down through generations of women in my family, including right down to my middle name. I’ve always loved that a woman’s name has traveled through our family for so long, and Ruthie’s felt like the perfect way to carry a little piece of that history into something new.

At Ruthie’s, I love making cakes that feel special and nostalgic: familiar flavors, vintage inspiration, and a little whimsy.

Most importantly, they’re made to taste every bit as good as they look!

Ruthie’s works out of the bakery of legendary vegan restaraunt Pingala Cafe in Burlington, VT. Known best for their Crunchwrap Supreme, Pingala has been serving up creative vegan comfort food in Burlington since 2013.

Sarah started working at Pingala Cafe as their baker in 2022. From there, she grew the bakery program into what it is today, plus started the cake program! With Pingala’s support, Sarah is growing Ruthie’s into its own entity and empire of cakes!

  • Yes! All Ruthie’s cakes are 100% vegan!

  • Ruthie’s makes cakes out of the kitchen at Pingala Cafe at 1353 North Avenue in Burlington, VT. This is where all order pick ups will be.

  • Email us at howdy@ruthiesvt.com and we can work together to make it happen! From unique cake flavors to vegan tiramisu - let’s make it happen!

  • We need at least 3 days notice to fulfill cake orders, but if you’re looking for something off-menu, give us as much heads up as you can :)
